I decided to tell you about my remote work.
Since June 2022 I have been able to work remotely, after moving to Italy. I was lucky enough to find two jobs, and both of them are 100% remote. What I mean by 100% remote, is that you see these remote job postings and they are actually not remote. They are remote WITHIN the country, for example in Greece. So it means you have to move to Greece, to be able to work remotely there, although you can stay anywhere within the country borders. Of course, there is nothing wrong with that, but that is not what I needed and wanted, since I was in Italy.

The best part of my remote jobs was, that I found them both through LinkedIn after a lot of searching and, after what I call “training the algorithm” to find me the best remote opportunities. Honestly, looking for a suitable job took at least 6 months, but there was also a lot of luck involved.
If you want to know exactly how I did that, let me know in the comments here or on my Youtube-channel, and I can make a video about it.
Goooooooogling
My first job was as a Google Ads reviewer. So, when other people have gmail-addresses, I had a Google – email address. You know: google.com. I worked with them through a subcontractor. I do mention the name of the subcontractor on my Youtube video, but I don´t want people to come to my site through searching the company name, so I am leaving it out form this blog article.
While this company was actually based in Portugal, my contract was for their branch in United States. The job was a bit boring routine job, but I did enjoy it. I guess you could call it digital marketing factory job. It gave me the freedom I needed and (I was able to travel to Finland at times), most importantly, it paid the bills. I worked for them for 2,5 years.
My second job with EU
My second job is with a project for the European Union’s Erasmus+ program. The administrative side of the project is in Italy, but my invoices go to a company in Romania, who take care of the financial part and handling the money. The project itself is an online platform for language learners who are part of the mobility program. My role is the moderator for the Finnish language forum. It’s a great job, and it’s also completely, and I mean, 100% remote.
What I’ve found most interesting about these remote roles is the team dynamic. Even though my teams were international and we were not in the same physical office, I feel more connected to them than I ever did working in a traditional office back in Finland or Norway. We have regular team meetings, weekly for my Google team and monthly for my EU project.
In comparison, the only exception was the great team I had in Scotland in 2005-2007, for Shell Shared Service Centre Glasgow Ltd. We would hang out after work, we had a group of some 6-8 colleagues, both local and international. Oh, those memories!
But honestly, the teams I have had now since 2022 have been perfect for me, and I consider myself very lucky.
So, that’s what I did for work, for 100% remotely. I hope this was interesting to you. Feel free to ask me any questions in the comments, and I can answer them in a future video!
