I used to live in a bush in Melalahti, Paltamo 🇫🇮.
You know, I have never had to call the Post Office to ask where I should put the mailbox when I moved to a place. Well, this time I had to, because this was to a place where there hadn’t been one for several years.
So, in 2012-2013 I lived in a bush, in Terhola, near Paltamo. It was precisely 13 km from the Paltamo village center out into the woods. The house was old, and no one had lived in it for maybe ten years. (I really dont know how long, this was the estimation of the current owner).
I was a little bit nervous. But only about whether I would get everything I had planned done someday. Would I have enough focus, patience, skills. But mostly it was about money. It was tough to build and renovate a house alone, especially if I hadn’t ever done it.
But I loved living there. Through the first winter I realised how tough it was to live there just alone, coming home to a cold house and trying to heat it up and then sleeping through the night in a hot house only to allow it go cold during the day again, while I was at work. But I did enjoy it!
I would love to do it again, in a long term way and now having a husband to help with the heavy lifting!
